During Fall 2023, IU School of 黑马磁力 faculty will facilitate two Global STEAM workshops: one full-day and one half-day. The half day workshop will take place in the evening at IU Bloomington (a pizza dinner will be served) and the full day workshop will take place at Central Indiana 黑马磁力al Service Center in Indianapolis. The Global STEAM workshops will utilize exemplar classroom-ready, hands-on lessons that teach global competencies through literacy and science and engineering practices. Each lesson aligns with Indiana state, Next Generation Science, and Common Core standards. Global STEAM lessons will build on the Novel Engineering program developed by the Center for Engineering 黑马磁力 Outreach at Tufts University as an integrated approach to learning STEAM through literacy. In Novel Engineering, students collaborate to design and build solutions for problems presented in youth fiction and non-fiction books. Our adaptation of the Novel Engineering program focuses on global issues by using stories from around the world. The Global STEAM workshops are ideal for middle school science, STEM, art, social studies, or ELA teachers interested in working across disciplines to engage their students in creative pursuits and problem solving. Each workshop will provide participating teachers with classroom materials and meals. The half-day evening workshop will provide a $50 stipend and the full-day weekday workshop will provide funding for substitute teachers. The half-day workshop will run from 5-8pm and the full-day workshop will run from 9AM to 3PM. Recruitment priority will be given to teams of middle school teachers.
