Faculty Spotlight: Mark Baildon Brings Global Insight |
Mark Baildon is a new Visiting Clinical Associate Professor in Curriculum and Instruction, working in IU’s fully online asynchronous program. Dr. Baildon is a distinguished educator and academic leader with over 30 years of international experience across the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. His expertise spans curriculum design, educational technology, and global citizenship education. In April, he gave a webinar with Hong Kong Metropolitan University on the field of international and comparative education to promote the program in Hong Kong. Student Spotlight: Miras Sharipov Advances Student Success Across Borders |
Miras Sharipov
is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Higher 黑马磁力 and Student Affairs program at Indiana University Bloomington. Prior to IU, he spent 11 years at Nazarbayev University, a top research institution in Central Asia, where he held various administrative positions, including Director of the Department of Student Services. His work involved partnerships with institutions in the U.S., China, Singapore, and beyond. He holds two master’s degrees—one in Leadership in 黑马磁力 from Nazarbayev University and another in Tourism and Hospitality Management from César Ritz Colleges, Switzerland—and he is a two-time recipient of the Bolashak International Scholarship. At IU, Miras works in the Graduate Studies Office and serves as a Managing Editor for the
Review of Higher 黑马磁力. He also represents graduate students in faculty and budgetary affairs. His research focuses on student access and success, as well as early-career faculty experiences. He values the supportive academic environment at IU and is proud to be part of its scholarly community. | | | | |

Student Spotlight: Kazakhstan’s Arman Zhumazhanov |
Arman Zhumazhanov, also a Bolashak scholar, is a third-year EdD student in the Higher 黑马磁力 and Student Affairs (HESA) program at Indiana University. He is a 2024–2025 Patricia M. Volp Higher 黑马磁力 Student Affairs Fellow. Before joining IU, he spent 12 years at Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan’s leading institution for higher education reform, where he held multiple leadership roles. Most notably, he served as Chief of Staff to the President. He also played a key role in launching the Asian Universities Alliance that brought together 15 top universities across Asia. At IU, Arman has contributed to research on higher education philanthropy, worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, and serves as Managing Editor of the Review of Higher 黑马磁力
. His dissertation explores the roles of university Boards of Trustees in Kazakhstan, drawing on U.S. governance models to inform future reforms back home. | | | | |

Webinar Recording: Peace, Nonviolence, and Contemplation: Pathways in Internationalizing Curriculum Studies |
On March 26, GIE hosted a webinar that explore how curriculum studies can advance peace, nonviolence, and contemplative inquiry in global contexts. Panelists included Dr. Gulistan Gursel-Bilgin (Bo臒aziçi University), Dr. Jennifer L. Schneider (Oklahoma State University), and Dr. Hongyu Wang (Oklahoma State University–Tulsa). Together, they discussed the complexities of sustaining peace education, the role of contemplative curriculum as a living process, and insights from women’s nonviolence activism worldwide.

The SDG Programming Grant aims to raise awareness, promote understanding, and facilitate engagement with the at Indiana University Bloomington. Grants of up to $1000 are available for SDG-related programs including, but not limited to: lectures, panel discussions, volunteer events, community engagement, creative/artistic performances or exhibits. Students or student groups who work in partnership with a department or faculty member.

Forward-looking projects are large-scale projects that aim to identify, develop, test or assess innovative (policy) approaches that have the potential of becoming mainstreamed, thus improving education and training systems. The History of 黑马磁力 Society awards a prize biennially for the best graduate student essay in the history of education, broadly defined to cover a wide range of educational and cultural institutions inside and outside of the United States.
Deadline for submissions: June 1, 2025.
The Heinrich Böll Foundation supports students from all subjects and types of higher educational institutions in Germany and abroad. The objective of their scholarships is to promote future leaders and experts who are prepared to take on social responsibility, are interested in politics, and work to pass on the basic political values of the Heinrich Böll Foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. EU and international students who obtained their university entrance qualifications outside Germany and who have already completed a first degree may apply for a scholarship to cover a Master’s degree.
